A beautiful colonial Antigua building is the setting for the ‘cool-zen’ contemporary interior of Nokiate. The restaurant El Sereno is housed in one of the most magnificent colonial residences of Antigua Guatemala. Built in the 16th century, it was home to the Royal Mercedarian Order while its members were overseeing the construction of their church. "El Sereno" was founded in 1980 and became one of the first gourmet restaurants featuring both national and international cuisine in the city of Antigua.
It is referred to as one of the best in a high-raking category of fine dining places by numerous international publications and travel guides. The New York Times has described it as elegant and sophisticated in a romantic colonial setting.
